If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

A fundamental requirement of any successful team is the undeniable belief that they can succeed. Without this belief no success will ever be sustainable and they will just have fleeting moments in which they think the team has turned the corner when in reality it's only a brief respite. A winning team mentality is required for ongoing success.Posted: Monday 13 July 2015

Every generation has that one special footballer who out of the millions of footballers around the world, stands out as something special. The Blues are a New Zealand professional rugby team competing in the Super 15 competition. They have a successful history winning the competition three times and the semi-finals three times, yet their recent history is poor, with them coming near the bottom in the last three seasons finishing 12th, 10th, and 10th respectively and this season is no better with the side currently 13th on the ladder. Imagine the following scenario. You go to work everyday and you do what you believe is a good job. You get on well with your boss and you enjoy your work, that is until a new boss arrives who has very different ideas of the workplace and your role within it. Then day by day you start to enjoy your role less and less until you come to a day when you feel that either you leave or your new boss does. This scenario is not difficult to imagine as it either happened to you or someone you know.Posted: Monday 11 May 2015

Within workplaces around the world, teams struggle with this concept. In many teams people's unique personalities, skills and experiences are not appreciated and managers want their team to fit a particulate mould. They have an idea of what type team member they want and they hire people to try and fit that pre-ordained idea. In doing so they miss out on many exceptional candidates and the ones they do hire aPosted: Monday 20 April 2015 -

One of the saddest aspects of the workplace today is the amount of bad leaders that still exist. The most common request I get for coaching is to assist people in dealing with conflict. People find conflict difficult and will sometimes go through great lengths in order to avoid it or they get themselves so worked up that by the time they deal with the conflict its escalated into something much bigger than it originally was. The end results are very rarely satisfactory. Why does this happen why do people tend to avoid conflict?Posted: Monday 16 March 2015
